SJ LAW INSIGHT: When you sit silently and do not speak your truth you consciously acquiesce for things to set up without you and perhaps contrary to your best interests. Your professional life is an extension of your inner state and areas, fears, insecurities that you fail to address personally will just carry over and blow up professionally. I'm working with a start up company, SYNERGY TV, and Gabby's words rang in my ear during our last conference call. The best part about start ups is they are a blank canvas pliable to whatever corporate culture you intend IF and that's a big IF, you state your intention with clarity and follow through. Our team is very interested in creating a progressive corporate climate and one member of the new team asked us for our ideals of how ours should be set up. My stomach churned and every fiber in my being drawing from a couple of decades in the work world, mixed with happy and unhappy experiences, knew at least a few things that don't work for me. So I went first and put it right out there. "I intend for this to be a supportive and responsible culture versus a 'I have to cover my ass so much that I'm afraid to speak up or send an email'." and "utilize everyone's full potential and seek input across the board, i.e. pigeon holing this far to useful, creative, insightful, evolved being into just legal contract world is not in anyone's best interests." So far I still have the gig. Once I broke the ice chamber, everyone else felt okay to do the same and the intentions were 'cautiously' spewing. The future is ours, so why not fully participate in the new paradigm and create an environment that fosters our optimal potential for personal and professional growth?
